BOSTON (AP) — Limber up and get those snow shovels ready for action.

The National Weather Service says a coastal storm will dump up to a foot of snow in parts of Southern New England.

Meteorologist Allan Dunham says the snowfall forecast was upped Saturday, with six to 12 inches of snow now expected in parts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Winter storm warnings are in effect in parts of those states and in Connecticut.

Dunham says some of the highest snowfalls will be in southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island, where a heavy wet snow could lead to downed tree limbs and potential power outages.

The cities of Boston, Providence and Hartford have declared parking bans because of the storm.
