Senator-elect Warren to speak across the state

Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren will begin traveling the state this weekend for a series of public events designed to thank her supporters and to allow new constituents who did not support her to size her up.

“We’re in this together and we’ve got to work together from the start,” Warren said in a statement. “We’ve got to help people get back to work, level the playing field for our small businesses and help middle class families get fair shot to get ahead.”

An announcement from the campaign said Warren is not restricting the event to party activists. But they will undoubtedly be the most likely to attend. And Warren’s post-election engagement offers a hint that she may try to leverage the passion among her supporters when she begins her Senate term in January.

A spokesman said Warren plans to offer brief remarks and then greet constituents individually.

The events also serve as a book-end to the series of house parties she did with Democratic Party activists in the summer of 2011, before officially announcing her candidacy.

At one of those events, Warren gave an impromptu speech about the role of the public sector in the success of business that created a sensation among activists across the country, after a video of the speech was posted on YouTube.

Warren will go to Theodore’s Restaurant in Springfield at 1 p.m. Saturday and then to the Teamsters Local 170 in Worcester at 3:30 p.m. In addition, at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, she will meet with supporters at the Eagle’s Event Center in Fall River.

A campaign announcement said Warren plans to announce similar events soon.
