Two goals from Drew George gave Sacred Heart a season-opening victory and the biggest win in program history, as they defeated top-ranked UMass-Lowell, 2-1, at the Tsongas Center on Friday night.
The win was Sacred Heart’s first against a Hockey East opponent after going 0-9-1.
Sacred Heart took advantage of an early power play to take a 1-0 lead. With five seconds left on the man advantage, David Iacono found George on the back post and George knocked the puck past Connor Hellebuyck with 16:12 remaining in the first period.
After a scoreless second, Joseph Pendenza struck for the River Hawks at 4:24 of the third period, beating Alex Vazzano to tie the game, 1-1.
