It wasn’t long after Aaron Hernandez was led out of his North Attleboro home in handcuffs on Wednesday morning that the Patriots tweeted the following:
“The New England #Patriots have released Aaron Hernandez.”
The post didn’t even come close to 140 characters.
New England moved swiftly to distance itself from its 2010 fourth-round draft pick, who was charged with first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd and five gun-related charges around four hours after the team’s announcement.
In an e-mailed statement, the Patriots said: “A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss.
