About her: Monica Walker (right, pictured with teammate Amanda McLean) has been curling since she was 10 years old and is hoping to make it onto her first Olympic team. The Sudbury native and Boston University alumnus curls for Broomstones Curling Club based in Wayland. Walker has finished in the top-5 at the US National Championships three times, taking fourth place in 2012 and 2013 and fifth in 2010. As a junior, she was runner up at the US Junior National Championships in 2006 and 2007, while also taking fourth in 2008 and fifth in 2005. Walker competed at the World Junior Championships in 2007 as an alternate for teammate Aileen Sormunen, where she finished fourth. Walker won four straight GNCC Junior Women’s Playdown titles from 2005-08, and finished runner up in 2002 and 2004.
Decision time: The 2014 US Olympic Team Trials for curling run from Nov. 10-17, with the winning women’s team automatically advancing to Sochi.
