Before the season started, North Attleboro coach Don Johnson put a lot of emphasis on the beginning of the schedule. Playing two consecutive nonleague games, Johnson hoped his team would just make it out healthy.

After two victories, Johnson’s squad looks more than just healthy as it convincingly defeated host BC High, 27-7, Friday night.

North Attleboro has scored 74 points in two weeks, with captain Alex Jette leading the way. Jette, who recorded 376 all-purpose yards last week against La Salle (R.I.), carried the ball 11 times Friday for 104 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 53 yards.

“He’s a pretty versatile player and he’s an aggressive kid,” Johnson said.

The Eagles got off to a good start on defense as Brandon Owens intercepted Ryan Perron on North Attleboro’s opening drive. After a three-and-out for BC High, the Red Rocketeers were back on offense. But Perron was intercepted again, this time by Tim Johnson, who returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.

Those would be the only points the Eagles scored all night.

North Attleboro adjusted its game plan, executing a flawless six-run drive capped by a 3-yard touchdown run by Perron.

The Red Rocketeers caught BC High off guard with an onside kick and North Attleboro recovered at the 50. They continued to run efficiently and reached the end zone in just five plays.

“We have a great offensive line so we like to use our dynamic offenses to put any sort of athlete with the ball,” Perron said. “Our line will give us those yards we need for a first down and progressively move down the field to get a nice drive.”

Both teams made a few costly mistakes, but one fumble ended up giving North Attleboro the edge. With a 5-point lead at the end of the third quarter, Jette was lined up to punt on fourth and long. A bad snap caused Jette to run with the ball, and he broke of a long gain to move the chains. That set up Perron’s second rushing touchdown of the night.

“Every time I see a low snap, a light switch goes off in my head — I’m running with the ball,” said Jette. “It’s really special that late in the game that was the boost we needed to come out with the win.”

North Attleboro’s Jack Blase had a 12-yard scoring run late in the fourth.

BC High is fighting many injuries. In 88 minutes of play, the Eagles have yet to score a touchdown on offense. Despite that, coach Joe Gaff is optimistic about his team’s character.
