Athletes of the Year

Connor Murphy

Division 3CC: Bishop Stang, Senior
Murphy fired a 71 at the Division 3 state tournament to win the title by three strokes. A repeat All-Scholastic selection, he has qualified for the Mass. Open and finished second at last year's Boston Open. He hopes to golf in college.

Nick Pandelena

Division 1: St. John's Prep, Senior
The Division 1 state champion won in a playoff and helped lead his team to a second-place finish at the MIAA state meet. A standout hockey player and honor student, he will attend Boston College in the fall to play golf and possibly hockey.

Jason Steele

Division 2: Georgetown, Senior
The Cape Ann League Player of the Year finished second in the Division 2 tournament, losing in a playoff despite shooting a 68. He also finished second at the Division 2 North sectional. While playing this season for Pentucket, he helped lead his team a fourth-place finish at the state tournament.

All-Scholastics

Jonah Choe

Billerica, Senior
Choe's one-under 69 at the North Sectional garnered him the top spot individually and gave the Indians the team title as well. He was a team captain and the top player on the MVC champions, finished sixth at states, helping Billerica to a fourth-place finish.

Peter French

Franklin, Senior
Making his second All-Scholastic appearance, French defended his Division 2 South Shore title this with a 71 at Easton CC. He also won the Hockomock League individual title. He is an avid skier when not golfing, and hopes to continue his golf career in college.

Pat Frodigh

Westwood, Junior
The leader of the Wolverines, Frodigh posted a round of 74 at the state meet to help Westwood win the Division 3 state title. He also helped Westwood win the South sectional title. The Tri-Valley League Individual champion is also a member of the baseball team.

Ryan Harris

Concord-Carlisle, Senior
Harris fired a career best 66 at the Division 2 North sectional to help his team to a second-place finish. He was a part of the undefeated Dual County Small championship team. He participates in a number of club teams, and will play golf at Akron University.

Joe Leavitt

Central Catholic, Senior
The runner up at the Division 1 state meet, Leavitt ended his season with an 11-0-1 match-play record. He leaves as a three-time MVC Golfer of the Year, and a four-time conference champion. Leavitt competed at the 2010 US Amateur, and will play golf at Florida Southern.

Max Linemayr

Berwick
Linemayr went 12-2 this fall with a scoring average of 37.1 His best score of the season was 4 under par and he led the team to a 13-1 regular season title. In the league championship he won his flight, leading his team to a overall 13-stroke championship victory, Berwick's third in a row.

Charlie May

Masconomet, Junior
The MIAA Division 2 state champion with a 68, he helped lead Masconomet to the team state title in addition to the North Sectional and Cape Ann League titles this season. A two-time CAL All-Star, he hopes to play golf at a southern college.

Jack McDonald

Plymouth North, Senior
McDonald finished tied for first at the Division 2 state meet after 18 holes before falling in a playoff. He also finished third at the South Sectional meet, after finishing second a year ago. A two-time ACL All-Star and honor roll student, McDonald hopes to play golf in college.

Nick McLaughlin

St. John's Prep
At 6-foot-6, McLaughlin is imposing on the tee, but his play is more formidable. He was the Catholic Conference champion, and finished fourth at the MIAA Division 1 state meet. An honor student and basketball player, he will play golf at Virginia.

Connor O'Leary

Sandwich, Senior
O'Leary was the medalist at the Division 2 South sectionals firing a 73 at Easton CC to win by three strokes. His effort helped give Sandwich a second-place team finish and qualified both of them for states, where he finished 13th, shooting a 76 at Juniper Hill GC.

Patrick O'Leary

BC High, Senior
O'Leary is the captain of an Eagles team that won the South Sectionals and finished third at the state meet. O'Leary finished fourth at the South Sectional meet with a 76. He was a four-year state tournament qualifier. A National Merit Scholar, he will play golf at Penn.

Steve Parise

Billerica
The captain of the undefeated MVC and Division 1 North Sectional champions, Parise finished 10th at the Division 1 state meet, second at the North sectionals, and at the MVC Individual tournament. A three-time MVC All-Conference player, he also plays hockey for the Indians.

Zach Schuster

Norton, Senior
The Co-MVP of the Tri-Valley League was the medalist at the South Sectional tournament with a round of 72. He followed that up with a fifth-place finish at the Division 3 State tournament. A two-year captain and National Honor Society student, he hopes to attend Eckerd or the University of Tampa.

Matthew Gillis

Westwood
The Wolverines saved their best for tournament play, capturing the Division 3 South sectional title and state title after finishing third in the competitive Tri-Valley League. A 1990 graduate of Bridgewater State, Gillis has coached golf for nine years and has gone 118-45.

Ben Hodges

Masconomet
Masconomet swept all team honors this year, winning the Cape Ann League crown, Division 2 North sectionals, and a state title. A two-time CAL Coach of the Year, he has a 93-24-1 record in eight years at the helm. He's a Pentucket and Gordon College alum.

Joel Jenkins

Billerica
Under the guidance of Jenkins, Billerica finished 16-1 and won the Merrimack Valley Conference title. In the postseason, Billerica earned the Division 1 North title, then finished fourth at the state championship. Jenkins,a Billerica graduate, was also the MVC Coach of the Year.
