BOSTON—A Boston man authorities say was drunk when he struck and killed a young New York man riding a motor scooter before leaving the scene has been sentenced to five years in jail.

Colin Ratiu (RAT'-oo) also had his driver's license revoked for 15 years on Tuesday after pleading guilty to motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.

Prosecutors say the 25-year-old Ratiu was returning home after a concert at the TD Garden on Nov. 14, 2010 when he struck 23-year-old Andrew Prior, a Syracuse, N.Y. resident who had recently graduated from Northeastern University.

Ratiu, who was speeding, then left the scene.

He was tracked down three months later through video surveillance.

His lawyer says he accepts responsibility.
