A high school mathematics teacher in South Boston who organized the city’s first honor society for math students has been named the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year. Adam Gray, a Somerville resident who teaches at Monument High School in South Boston, will receive a $5,000 grant from Hannaford Supermarkets and automatically be entered in the competition for National Teacher of the Year. The state Department of Education said Gray was recognized for his ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve their goals. Jessica Kodys of Stacy Middle School in Milford was named the Massachusetts History Teacher of the Year. She was recognized for generating enthusiasm among her students. Each year, her classes draft a constitution that spells out rules, responsibilities, and rights for students. (AP)
